Symbols Speak

We'll take a month-long look at some objects from our Church and explain their meanings and symbolism.    Coming soon, we will look at the mosaic found at the front of our church and look at the  rich stories which are told there.  If you have a question or a suggestion for a topic or symbol that you would like to hear about, please contact the Parish office.

Why are these items given at a Baptism?   (I'm going to guess at these, please edit!)

The candle symbolizes the Light; the Light of Christ.  The candle is lit from the Paschal candle. This candle, blessed on Easter, represents Christ's triumph over death.  The candle also represents that "We are the Light of the World" and we need to shine our light for others to see.

Holy Water is a sign that original sin is washed away.

The white bib symbolizes that we "put on Christ" through baptsim.  A new life has begun.  White is a color of purity and shown to be without blemish or the stain of sin.

Our Mission

We, the people of Holy Rosary Parish, are committed through our baptism to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ in our own times and place.  As God's family, we are committed to living the Gospel through the celebration of the Eucharist and the other sacraments, faithfully presenting and living the teachings of the Church, and to love as Jesus loved, especially in regard to the poor, the needy and the troubled.
